Leadership welcome
Rosie Gilsenan-Reed and Darrell Avery
At Two Wells School, we strive to provide our learners with a safe and nurturing environment. As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, we would like to address an important matter regarding traffic movement on our school premises. The school car park and roundabout are a growing concern, despite many requests and clear signage, parents continue to use the roundabout as a kiss and drop and the carpark, including our disabled car parking spaces. Staff have recently completed training and we will be using cones to ensure the front drive is blocked. We have a group of student leaders who will be trained to patrol the crossings inside the school.
Ensuring the safety of our learners is our top priority, and we are committed to working closely with the community to minimise any potential risks. We appreciate your understanding, patience, and support during this process.
Yesterday we conducted a lockdown drill, I would like to thank students for the participating positively. One or two Year 6 students disregarded the drill because it was a practice! We ensured to support these students in ensuring they understand the safety measures that come with this and shared the story "The boy who cried wolf", seeing this as a teachable moment. Please talk to your children about safety drills and their importance.
This term our students participated in 'Reggi Grandad' and 'Bully Zero'. We continue to develop our students social and emotional needs with a strong focus on positive language and developing friendships. We continue to support students with support during breaktimes by developing peer programmes with student leaders leading games next term. Thanks to Miss Beck and Miss P.
As part of our work to be more sustainable, reports are live on Daymap. We started this process last year and are encouraging parents to access reports in this way, because paper reports will disappear in 2025. We will print reports for your child before parents evening, however we would love you to have a go using Daymap. Save the trees, save the planet!
As a member of the community I do read out and about Two Wells, Lewiston and Angle Vale. Our school is not zoned but we are full, Governing Council and Staff are aware that we are at capacity but are not able to create waitlists or refuse students. We have started to allocate additional non instruction time to teachers. It is essential new parents receive accurate information, we urge a school visit and interview as soon as possible for any student coming to our site in 2025. I would like to draw families attention to the work we do with neurodiverse students, in particular our thriving AIT student and parent group on Monday after school. See Ms Beck for more details.
We are excited about our new Mid year entry class and the beautiful environment created by Miss Rosie and our new teacher Miss Amie. We are looking forward to welcoming our new families. It is always sad to farewell an important member of our team. Cindie will join the staff at Riverton High next term, we wish her well as she starts a new adventure an thank her for her service to our community.
Have a safe and happy holiday.

As Term 2 draws to an end, it is wonderful to reflect on the many additional learning opportunities our students have participated in throughout the term. A fantastic effort by our dedicated staff to provide these opportunities to continue to enrich our students and learning. Once again, a super big thank you to our parents and carers for their wonderful involvement and support for events held at the school.
This term, we've had 23 new students join us for transition visits, and we're eagerly anticipating their official start on the first day of Term 3, which begins on Monday, July 22nd. This brings our total number of students to 57 receptions on site for Term 3. Additionally, I'm delighted to welcome Amie Walter as our new reception teacher, joining our team alongside our new mid-year students.
Have a wonderful break.

A huge well done to our Communications Captain Rosaleigh Phillips from room 12 for her efforts in leading and filming this interview. Great work Rosaleigh.
Health and Physical Education
We were successful in securing a grant to allow our students the opportunity to participate in the Sporting Schools program. As a result of this grant, Sporting Schools Program was delivered free to help our students build their confidence, build footy skills and capabilities to be active for life.
Our students are into their Aussie Rules footy so it was most fitting to have SANFL coach the program. All students across the 7 classes experienced 4 coaching sessions over a 4-week period which concluded this week.
We thank Archer McGuiness, Grace Humphries and Bella Materne for their valuable contribution in delivering an engaging Aussie Rules Football program.

Road Safety training
Road Safety outside the school has been an ongoing issue for a long time so on Monday 24th June a selection of senior student volunteers and staff participated in Road Crossing Monitor safety training conducted by SAPOL.
All students came away feeling ready to volunteer their time to be on the roster. We will be sending information home to those parents re the commitment before the holidays ready to start at the beginning of term 3. We will also be running the training again to allow more students to participate.
Here is some information they learned:
Role and requirements School crossing monitors are responsible for:
- Giving reasonable directions to pedestrians for the safe and efficient movement of people and traffic
- Exhibiting stop signs and/or flags requiring drivers, bike riders and motorcyclists to stop before driving over a school crossing
- Storage of equipment at the end of the duty.
Monitors are legally required to be 10 years of age and be trained and authorised by South Australian Police (SAPOL).
Supervision- A school has a duty of care to supervise students who are monitoring school crossings and as such will only be ‘on duty’ with an adult. Such supervision could include observing road user behaviour, making sure that monitors are wearing appropriate vests and / or raincoats and managing the crossing correctly, ensuring that all equipment is stored securely when not in use.
Traffic infringements- Drivers and pedestrians who disobey monitors instructions or speed through the school crossing can be reported to the Police.
STOP paddles- When there are 2 people on duty the use of large ‘Paddles’ with STOP on them are used but these cannot be used if there is only one person.
What is Autism?
Autism is a condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, interacts with others, and experiences their environment. It is estimated that one in 70 people are on the autism spectrum (APSECT.org.au).
The medical model views Autism as a disability whereas many people in connection with those in the Autistic community view autism as just a different way of developing and seeing the world. ”A -typical “and “Neurodivergent” titles fit with this later model.
Many of us think about Autism as being a ‘linear’ disability, where the disability is more or less severe, however we can better consider Autism if we think of it as a ‘wheel’ or spectrum shape. There are several ‘categories’ where we function socially and communicatively;
The closer a person is to the centre of the circle in a particular area the more support or assistance they may require in that aspect, however in other areas they may not require much or any support.
Autism is diagnosed using observation and gathering information about an individual’s behaviours and characteristics across a range of environments. The way autism presents is different for everyone and each individual can present differently depending where they are, what is happening, who is around and how they are feeling. Where a person sits in the spectrum can change over time as people learn skills for managing and coping, and as they grow and develop.
We will be continuing our information in the newsletter over the rest of the year. If you would like to raise any cares or concerns about your child, please contact their class teacher or the Autism Inclusion Teacher (Beck Mather-Brown).
