Principal's Welcome
Dear families,
I do hope you are recovering from our recent hot spell and enjoying the cooler weather. Thank you to all parents who have raised concerns about the air conditioners in some classrooms, we appreciate your support as we work with the Department to improve conditions for our children. We also thank parents for their constructive feedback in terms of staffing in Room 16, Paula Napper will be absent next week and the timetable on Class Dojo is accurate, we will provide an update for next Thursday and Friday.
In our last newsletter we discussed the reviewed school values, Respect, Courage, Growth Mindset and Compassion into our feedback to staff and students. Our work is around building strong relationships, high expectations and positive classroom tone. Part of our work this year is to construct a social and emotional curriculum to ensure we promote excellent behaviour, which is a combination of skills, habits, inclinations, values and knowledge.
These can be taught in partnership with home, as we are finding that many staff have to deal with low level behaviors on a daily basis because students do not follow basic school expectations. For example, no jewellery in school, no hat, no play and eating while standing up. Staff often have to deal with poor behaviour for giving simple and reasonable instructions. There is another, sombre side to all of this, well managed, well behaved school spaces are essential for all student's happiness and safety. It also provides job satisfaction for the highly accomplished professionals in our team.
As such many of our rules are published in our enrolment packs and documented on our website, please ensure you are familiar with these because we often find that parents are not aware of school expectations and this can lead to unnecessary misunderstandings, particularly when we suspend their child, after all we are on the same page, all our families want their children to have friends, feel successful and be happy during their 12 years at school. Better behaviour is essential to good learning and takes constant shared effort and feedback for improvement.
At our school positive behavior is a set of habits which help students to flourish as a learner and a human. This is much more than compliance, this is the ability to know how to conduct ourselves in a group situation, use of language, eye contact, tone of voice and body language, how to argue sensibly, how to behave in an unfamiliar social situation, how to have courage to forgive some one when we argue with friends and how to control our temper by developing self awareness; particularly when we make a mistake. In our classrooms that means we can track the speaker (students and adults), we speak with care and kindness, we ask for help if we need it, we ensure we are prepared and on time, we are prepared to improve our social and emotional skills by using the strategies we are explicitly taught to support regulation and self management and we wear our uniform and stay in the classroom for learning time. One of the characteristics of our school is that this is a cornerstone in our curriculum and we are empowering students to expand their emotional literacy. Most importantly we follow the instructions of the adults who have duty of care and use our words to solve our problems.

Harmony Day
Cultural identity is an important aspect into how students learn, and at Two Wells Primary we value and appreciate fostering and nurturing students individual identities and connection to culture.
Harmony Day is a time in which we come together and celebrate the cultural diversity present within our classrooms, and take the time to acknowledge and respect this through various learning experiences/activities.
What are we up to? GARDENING!
Have a look to see what some of our passionate stduents at TWPS have been up to. This program has been constructed and lead by our Positve Behaviour for learning SSO's, and gives students the oppurtunity to immerse themsleves in collaborative learning based tasks that support emotional regulation, social skills, resilience and learning development.
